Office removals in London

Close the old office, open the new one, and keep the working week clear in between.

Office removals in London from London Mover are planned around your trading hours, so staff leave one office at close of business and sit down at labelled desks in the new one when work resumes. We handle desks, IT, files, meeting rooms and kitchen kit, coordinate loading bays and goods lifts with both buildings, and arrange secure disposal of what you are not taking.

How do you move an office without stopping work?

The answer is planning backwards from the moment you need people working again. We agree that point with you, then schedule everything else around it. For most London offices that means packing and loading in the evening or at the weekend, after the last meeting has finished, so the working week is untouched. Teams that cannot stop at all, such as a reception desk, a trading floor or a customer service line, can move last, or in a separate phase once the rest of the floor is live. Before the move we walk both sites with your office manager or facilities lead and agree who decides what on the night. We also confirm the building rules at each end. A clear brief, a named contact on each side and a floor plan with desk numbers do more to keep downtime short than any amount of lifting speed.

IT equipment and desk labelling

Every desk on the new floor plan gets a number. Every item belonging to that desk, including monitors, docking station, pedestal, chair and crate of personal things, gets a matching colour-coded label, so it lands in the right place without anyone directing traffic. Staff pack their own desk crates and we supply the crates. Monitors and desktop machines travel in padded IT crates or anti-static wrap. Cables are bagged with the device they came from. Servers, network cabinets and anything your IT provider manages are best disconnected and reconnected by that provider. We move the hardware, and they handle configuration, so it is always clear who is responsible if something does not come back up. If you have no IT provider, tell us at the planning stage and we will talk through the options.

Can an office move be done in phases?

Yes, and for larger or more complicated relocations it is often the safer way. A phased move takes one department or one floor at a time, so if something is missed in the first phase, it can be fixed before the next. It also suits offices where the new space is being fitted out in stages, or where a lease overlap means you hold both buildings for a while. Each phase has its own label colours and its own checklist, and we keep a running record of what has moved, so nobody has to guess whether the finance team’s archive boxes have gone yet. Phasing also spreads the load on the goods lift and the loading bay, which building managers in busy multi-tenant blocks tend to appreciate. The trade-off is more coordination, so a phased plan needs one person on your side who owns the sequence.

What do landlords and building managers ask for?

Most managed office buildings in the City, Midtown, Canary Wharf and the West End have rules for moves, and both your old and new buildings will have their own. Expect requests for a booked goods lift and loading bay slot, a named contact on the night, protection for lift cars, corridors and reception floors, and paperwork such as a risk assessment, a method statement and a copy of the remover’s insurance certificate. Ask your managing agent early what they need, then pass it to us. We will confirm what we can supply and fit the move into the access window they give us. Dilapidations matter too: leaving the old floor clear and undamaged is part of getting your deposit back.

Secure disposal and clearing the old floor

An office move is the natural point to get rid of old desks, broken chairs and filing cabinets full of paper nobody has looked at for a long time. Tell us what is not coming, and we can arrange for reusable furniture to go to resale or donation where possible, for waste to be removed through licensed carriers, and for confidential paper to go to secure shredding with a certificate of destruction from the shredding provider. Old hard drives should be wiped or destroyed by a specialist, and we can collect them for that. Records you need to keep but rarely use can go into business and document storage, so they are not taking up desk space in the new office.

FAQ

Office removals in London: your questions

Do you move small offices and studios as well as whole floors?

Yes. A small practice in Marylebone, a design studio in Shoreditch or a single-room office above a shop gets the same planning as a full floor, just scaled down. For a very small office with a handful of desks, a van and two people may be all it takes. Tell us the headcount and the access at both ends and we will suggest the right crew.

Who disconnects and reconnects our computers?

For standard desk set-ups, such as monitors, docks, keyboards and desktop towers, we can unplug, pack and reconnect the hardware to the same positions on the new desks. Network equipment, servers, phone systems and anything with configuration behind it should be handled by your IT provider. We work alongside them on the night so the hardware is ready when they arrive.

Can you move us over a weekend?

Weekend and evening moves are common for London offices, because they keep the working week clear. The main thing to check is whether both buildings allow access at those times, and whether the goods lift and loading bay can be booked. Some buildings restrict weekend access or need security on site, so ask your managing agent early and pass on their answer.

What should staff do before the move?

Each person clears their desk and packs personal items and desk drawers into the crates we provide, labelled with their new desk number. Shared areas such as the kitchen, stationery cupboard and meeting rooms should have a named owner. Ask staff to take valuables and laptops home with them. A short briefing from the office manager with the floor plan saves a lot of questions when people arrive at the new office.
